We’ll be out for sure – we want to get a photo of Clara and Isabel with Santa at Timmie Doggie Outfitters.

Flying with Kids

Nothing drives fear into the heart of this experienced traveller like the thought of flying with a kid.  We did it successfully back in September, on our trip to NYC, but that was a pretty short flight.  What if we want to go a bit further?

A friend and her 7-month old babe are flying to San Francisco this week, and I’ve been thinking about them.  That’s a 5 hour flight from Toronto (longer if you do a layover).  Yikes!  In order to try and help her out, I compiled a list of blog articles I’ve read about travelling with babies:

Ten Tips for Traveling with a Baby from Cup of Jo

Tips for Flying with a Baby from Hannah of akhmatova

Traveling with a Toddler from You + Me

Up, Up and Away from Coos and Ahhs

A bajillion handy articles from the Canadian site, Have Baby will Travel

And in this weekend’s NY Times, there’s a great article about flying with children.

Have you flown with your little ones?  How did it go?  Do you have any more tips?

Charles & Ray Eames Documentary

A new documentary about Charles & Ray Eames?  Yes please!  You can watch the trailer here.  So far there are no screening dates in Toronto, but the DVD is being released on December 13, so check with your local artsy film rental shop.  Or maybe hope it comes to Netflix.

Random: The film is narrated by James Franco.  That guy is such an anomaly.

Rifle Paper Co for Tiny Prints

I’ve always wanted personalized holiday cards from Rifle Paper Co, and this year, I got my wish!  No, I didn’t splurge on the custom illustrations – I made my own custom cards using Rifle’s collection on Tiny Prints.

I’ve used Tiny Prints to make my holiday photo cards for the past few years. They print on nice paper, have good designs, and excellent customer service. So I was beyond excited to see that Rifle Paper Co did a line of designs for them for DIY holiday cards. It was like an early Christmas present. (seriously, I’m such a paper nerd)

I picked this one and added a photo of our family. Seriously easy.  Now I can’t wait for them to arrive.

[Yes, I know I’m a bit neurotic for ordering my holiday cards this early. But there was a promo code, so I got them done quickly! ]

Leslieville Pumpkin Parade

On Tuesday night, after all the Halloween fun is over, what are you going to do with your pumpkin? Take it to Leslie Grove Park (Queen St. East and Jones) to be part of the pumpkin parade!

This has been happening in Sorauren Park in Parkdale for years – neighbours come out, bring their jack-o-lanterns to line the park pathways, and create a gorgeous “pumpkin parade” for all to enjoy and admire.  The next day, the pumpkins are removed by the city.

Come out on Tuesday night and meet your neighbours.  Apparently it starts around 6:00 or 6:30 in Leslie Grove Park.  Bring your pumpkin, and don’t forget a tea light to light it up!
