Holy guacamole – this is the best news I heard all weekend. Domino Magazine, the wildly popular but eventually doomed and out-of-print shelter mag, is coming back. There will be a “Quick Fixes” issue on newsstands April 17. That is definitely confirmed. But, there might be more… I’ve seen rumours circulating online that there will be another special issue coming in Autumn 2012, and there might even be regular issues published again starting in 2013. Yipppeee!
Amazon River Luxury Cruise
I saw a picture of this cruise ship on Pinterest and my jaw dropped. It has 16 luxury suites, and it cruises the northern Amazon River in Peru. Sign me up, please!
Thigh Society Undergarments
I was at a women’s small business event on Tuesday night, where I met Marnie Consky, owner and designer of Thigh Society. This gal has the BEST idea – sick of getting “chub rub” (that horrible expression for the chafing that happens on your thighs when you wear skirts and dresses in the summertime), she came up with an undergarment that is not tight and hot like shapewear or bike shorts. They’re “chic, sleek, lightweight shorts to wear under your skirts, dresses and pants for all-day comfort.”
That’s a picture of Marnie above, from an article about her and her business that ran in the Toronto Star last May.
You can find Thigh Society in a few specialty shops, or just order online. I am definitely getting a pair (or two) ASAP!
My Sentiments Exactly.
I really like these prints by Mike Monteiro.
A Not-Super-Ugly Murphy Bed
Last week, I was reading a roundup of “10 Practical Items from IDS 2012” over at Toronto Life. (IDS = Interior Design Show) I really like this walnut Murphy Bed from Space Solutions. It’s not super ugly!
Right now we have our guest room set up in the basement, with a big bed taking up most of the space. I have a feeling that as Clara gets older, we’re going to want to use the basement as more of a rec room, and that bed will have to go. A Murphy Bed is a great solution for accomodating guests on a real mattress (I’m not a huge fan of blow-up beds), without taking up too much space. I’m bookmarking this one for later…
A Bath With a View
I love having a long soak in a gorgeous bathtub, especially when I’m away from home. Seems so indulgent. Last year, when I went to Las Vegas with my girlfriends, we stayed at a hotel that had big tubs and TVs in the bathroom, so I watched a show while I soaked!
Check out this roundup of “Soak Worthy” hotels over on Tablet. Don’t you love the ones with a view, like The Standard in NYC, and Rayavadee in Thailand? Dreamy.
My Baby’s Laugh
Lately, there’s nothing in the world that makes me happier than hearing my baby girl laugh. Here’s a short video of her playing ball and giggling with her Dad. Warms my heart!
Have a great weekend.
Pretty Paperweights
You may remember me writing about Dana Tanamachi about a year ago – I love her chalk lettering. In the last year, she’s done a lot of cool stuff, including the lettering for the cover of this month’s Oprah magazine. She now has a line of paperweights for West Elm. I think paperweights are kind of useless – but they’re sooooooo pretty. I want one.

Funny Superbowl Ads
The Superbowl is this Sunday, which I couldn’t care less about. But I do enjoy some of the big game commercials, where advertisers pull out all the stops to entertain us.
Some of the Superbowl commercials are already available for you to see on YouTube. The one everyone is buzzing about is the “Matthew’s Day Off” ad for Honda – it’s a spoof of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, starting Matthew Broderick. Very entertaining. Other ads that you can watch now include a commercial for Acura featuring Jerry Seinfeld, and a commercial teaser featuring dogs barking the Star Wars Theme from Volkswagen. (Since when did commercials need teasers?!?)
Update: The full Volkswagen ad is now available on YouTube. Watch it until the end for the Star Wars connection to the teaser ad. I’m not sure what Volkswagen, dogs, and Star Wars have to do with each other, but it’s entertaining at least.
Extreme Tides in the Bay of Fundy
Have you been to the Bay of Fundy? I did an East Coast road trip to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia when I was a teenager, and I would love to go back. One of the (many) cool things about the East Coast are the extreme tides in the Bay of Fundy. I saw the “Flower Pot Rocks” in Hopewell Rocks Park (pictured above) at high tide, and then walked around them at low tide. Insane!
Here’s a neat time-lapse video featured on Kottke.org of the tide coming in and out in the Bay of Fundy. I love how the boats are beached, and then the water comes back in and rises them up again.
