It’s Cyber Monday!

I’m sure you’ve heard about Black Friday – the largest retail shopping day of the year in the States, on the Friday following Thanksgiving Thursday.  But did you know about Cyber Monday?  It’s the Monday following the Thanksgiving weekend, and there are many deals to be had online.  Cyber Monday is mostly an American thing, but many American online retailers will ship to Canada, so we can enjoy the deals too.

Apparently Cyber Monday is catching on – according to the Huffington Post, “Cyber Monday was the second highest spending day of 2009, with buyers charging nearly $890 million during the special shopping event.”

So, you ask, where are the deals?  I’ve seen a few good ones this morning:

Amazon.ca (yep, the Canadian dot ca website, not just the American dot com) has deals across their entire site – books, DVDs, electronics… check it out.

Moo.com: Buy a pack of Holiday cards, and then receive 25% off your entire order (including the Holiday cards and anything else you want, like business cards, postcards, stickers, etc).

TigerDirect.com has some insane deals on laptops, external memory, and other electronic goodies, including $60 off an 8gig Flip Video Camera.

If you want insider tips on the best Cyber Monday deals, head over to Twitter and follow @CyberMonday, @bestCyberMonday, and @CyberMondayNews.

Good luck and happy shopping!

One of a Kind Show Starts Today!

The One of a Kind Christmas show starts today and runs until December 5.  I’ll be there this Saturday, checking out the goods and trying not to spend too much!  The last time I went was a few years ago, so I’m excited to go again.  If you’re going, be sure to look out for my client Jill Schwartzentruber who will be selling her gorgeous (and very reasonably priced) earrings and necklaces at booth H29.

Rifle Paper Co.’s Holiday Collection

Rifle Paper Co. has announced their 2010 Holiday Collection, and it’s spectacular.  One year, I would love to splurge on custom personalized Christmas cards by Rifle – they’re so gorgeous, and much more original and interesting than the custom photo cards I get each year (which is enough of a splurge as it is!).

But if you don’t go custom, their other cards are quite reasonably priced.  And Rifle Paper Co. stationery and prints are great gift ideas…

On My Christmas List: Yarn Bowl

Seriously, how cool is thisGreg Neal, a potter in Ohio, is making and selling these yarn bowls through his Etsy shop.  If you’re not a knitter, you probably won’t get it.  But if you like knitting or crocheting, you’ll see the value in this product.  It holds your spool or ball of yarn, instead of having it roll around on the floor next to you (where, in my house, yarn picks up dust and dog hair).  The cut in the side guarantees your yarn comes off the spool easily.  And it’s a gorgeous piece of handmade pottery that you can leave out for display.

Dear Santa, I would not complain if one of these ends up under the tree with my name on it.

Kinnon’s Holiday Cards

Kinnon is selling cards and ornaments featuring her original artwork over at Zazzle.com.  There is no minimum order – you can buy as few (or as many!) as you like. And they have good volume discounts, too – even an order of 10 cards (and they don’t have to be 10 of the same card, either) is eligible for a discount.   The cards are blank inside and printed on bright white quality paper, perfect for sending holiday greetings!  You can visit Kinnon’s store here.

30% Off At Moo

My favourite online printer, Moo.com, is offering 30% off all printed products until Sunday at noon.  You don’t need a promo code – the discount is available right now on their site.  Need business cards, mini cards, holiday cards, stickers, or postcards?  They’re all on sale.  And you DON’T have to be a designer to use Moo – it’s really user friendly and they have a bunch of ready-made products to choose from.  I had two business meetings this past week where my clients gushed about my Moo cards – they really are great.

On my Christmas List: The Exquisite Book

Okay, Halloween’s over, Thanksgiving in Canada was last month… so now we can all turn our full attention to Christmas!  Yippee!  I can be quite a romantic about Christmas – the lights, the tree, the food, the (fingers crossed) snow, time spent with friends and family… I really do love it all.

One thing I do NOT love is shopping malls at Christmas time, so I try to do all my shopping months in advance, with most of it online.  While I’m perusing for others, it’s hard not to notice a few things I would like for myself… so here’s item one on my Christmas List: The Exquisite Book.  The book features one hundred contributing contemporary fine artists, illustrators, designers and comic artists, all working kind of together (for more info about the book and how they all came together, click here).

I think it looks amazing, and it will be very hard not to cut out certain pages and hang the artwork on the wall.  Maybe I should ask Santa for two copies…

New Magazine: Anthology

Ooooooh something new to drool over.  Since Blueprint and Domino folded, I’ve missed getting a quirky design/interiors print magazine.  The online blogs are great, but I do love having something I can actually hold in my hands.  Enter Anthology, a new quarterly print mag that “takes a narrative approach to its coverage of home décor, travel, design, entertaining, and culture.”  Meg Mateo Illasco (of Craft Inc and Creative Inc book fame) is the creative director, so you know it’s gonna look gorgeous.  You can order the first issue for $14, or get all 4 for $45.  Wanna see more?  You can preview the issue online here.
