… a witty drama, and a goofy comedy. Carnage is an adaptation of the play Gods of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, and you can totally tell it’s a play when you’re watching it. The language is so snappy, and all the action takes place in one room. It’s about two couples who meet because their kids got into a fight on the playground, and it’s fantastic. The characters are such assholes, and the actors do such a great job making them entertaining. Even Ian enjoyed it, and I honestly thought he was going to hate it.
We also watched Wanderlust with our pals Hilary and Tristan. The movie’s a total piece of fluff, but I have a soft spot for David Wain comedies, so I really enjoyed it.
Have you seen any great movies lately?
It’s the Friday before a long weekend, and I’m totally bogged down with work. I took a couple minutes out to watch this hilarious video though – definitely lightened my mood. I hope you have a great weekend, and enjoy it as much as this guy is loving those trains!
There’s a really active Group Pool on Flickr that’s maintained by the online magazine blogTO. Anyone can submit images, and many of them end up on the website. I like checking the photo pool every once and a while, just to look at some of the gorgeous images people are taking of Toronto. Like the two shots above, from Tuesday’s thunderstorm.

The delightful Caroline McGregor shared this on Twitter yesterday – Geeks vs. Nerds. I guess by these definitions, I’m a solid geek. But I definitely have some of the nerd qualities too (and I totally don’t mind being called either). Which one are you?

I was looking around at some of the new stuff at Ikea (yes, it’s that time of year again – new Ikea catalog time!). I love these cheeky rugs and duvet covers with a zipper on them. Seems perfect for a kid’s bedroom.
I enjoyed this piece in the Globe and Mail over the weekend about Canadian musicians raising kids while still rockin’ on tour. I especially loved this quote, “I have a mantra right now: Unconventional doesn’t necessarily mean dysfunctional,” Millan says. (that’s Amy Millan of Stars) I’m taking that one for me too.
When I was about 9 years old, my family rented a vacation house in Bar Harbor, Maine. I still remember it – playing in tidal pools, going to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, and eating fresh lobster (although I’ll admit, they were not my favourite as a child).
I would love to spend a summer there, doing the same things with my daughter. It’s a very romantic notion, right? Kind of like living in John Irving novel. (Remember that line from The Cider House Rules? “Good night you princes of Maine, you kings of New England”? I love it.) If you dream of Maine the way I sometimes do, check out this post on Designtripper, featuring 4 spectacular Maine vacation houses. Lovely.
Next month we’re going to a cottage we rented in upstate New York. Since we’ll be in the States for a week, I’m collecting a list of items I want to order from Target.com (and have it all shipped to the cottage).
A definite “must” for my Target shopping list is a few pieces from Todd Oldham’s Kid Made Modern collection. It’s classic kids’ craft supplies, but with a modern twist. I think these crayon gems (for Clara) and modern printed tape (for me) are so great. Yay American shipping!

Wow. I could definitely go for a holiday at this place. Don’t you love the view from the bed? Sign me up.
(I have no plans to go to Iceland – I’m just trolling Airbnb for awesome vacation ideas.)
