Poseidon Undersea Resort

Now here’s a holiday that you’d be talking about for a long time. The Poseidon Undersea Resort in Fiji features 24 rooms that are 40 feet under water (there are also island villas for those wishing to schnooze above ground).  For only $15,000 (!!!), you can spend a week at the resort, which includes 4 nights in an island villa, 2 nights in an underwater suite, gourmet meals and drinks, scuba diving and snorkeling, and rides in a luxury submarine.

It’s crazy expensive, but it would be the trip of a lifetime…

Family Vacation Idea: Farm Stay

Here’s a neat idea for a family vacation – go stay on a working farm.  Don’t worry – a farm vacation isn’t all manual labour and sleeping in the hay loft. Some farms offer full packages, including comfortable accommodations, hands-on activities, and amazing meals with the freshest ingredients possible.

I think this is a great idea, especially for urban families. You can read more about farm vacations in the States, and find a farm near you (or perhaps further away – a destination farm?) on the Farm Stay US website.  I would love to visit this one in Pennsylvania. It would make an easy road trip from Toronto, and they have a pool for post-farming lounging and swimming!

A Bath With a View

I love having a long soak in a gorgeous bathtub, especially when I’m away from home.  Seems so indulgent.  Last year, when I went to Las Vegas with my girlfriends, we stayed at a hotel that had big tubs and TVs in the bathroom, so I watched a show while I soaked!

Check out this roundup of “Soak Worthy” hotels over on Tablet.  Don’t you love the ones with a view, like The Standard in NYC, and Rayavadee in Thailand?  Dreamy.

Extreme Tides in the Bay of Fundy

Have you been to the Bay of Fundy?  I did an East Coast road trip to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia when I was a teenager, and I would love to go back.  One of the (many) cool things about the East Coast are the extreme tides in the Bay of Fundy.  I saw the “Flower Pot Rocks” in Hopewell Rocks Park (pictured above) at high tide, and then walked around them at low tide. Insane!

Here’s a neat time-lapse video featured on Kottke.org of the tide coming in and out in the Bay of Fundy.  I love how the boats are beached, and then the water comes back in and rises them up again.

Luxury Camping in Patagonia

I really don’t like the word “glamping” (which I guess combines “glamourous” and “camping”).  But I do like the concept – all the pros of camping (namely, being immersed in nature) without the cons (namely, uncomfortable sleeping conditions). Throw in some fancy amenities like spa treatments and gourmet meals, and you’re all set.

Check out Patagonia Camp – a luxury camp with 18 yurts on the edge of Lake Toro, just outside the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.  Gorgeous.

Quebec’s Ice Hotel

Have you heard of the ice hotel (Hotel de Glace) in Quebec?  It just opened for the season on Friday.  You can go for just a few hours, and take a tour, or eat brunch.  Or you can stay overnight. You can even have your wedding there!   And, because it literally disappears every year, the ice hotel is redesigned each season. I think that’s kind of neat.

Would you stay over at the ice hotel?  Even though those people in the picture up there look cozy, I hate being cold, so I’d probably only go for a visit.  Either way, it’s pretty rad.
