Rainbow Staircase in Germany

Wow, Germany seems to be winning in the “artsy stuff in public” category (yep, a category I just made up).  Last week I shared the Lego Bridge with you, and I just found this – the Holsteiner stairs in Wuppertal, Germany have been painted by German artist Horst Glaesker.  There are 112 steps in all, and each one has a German word painted on it.  To see more pictures, and read a translation of the words on the stairs, click here.

The Greatest Job Posting I’ve Ever Seen

On Tuesday evening, Tina Roth Eisenberg (aka SwissMiss) tweeted a link to this job posting.  It’s for Photojojo, an online hub and email newsletter for photography info (I love their store for cool photo stuff).  Doesn’t that job posting make you want to go work for them?  While relocating to San Francisco probably isn’t in the cards for me and my family right now, I am tempted to apply…

The 50 Best Movies of 2011

This past weekend, my pal Andrew posted a link on Twitter to this list of The 50 Best Movies of 2011 (from Paste Magazine).  While perusing the list, I realized I missed so many good films last year.  There are a few I completely forgot about (like Errol Morris’s Tabloid) and there are a few I didn’t hear of that look great (like happythankyoumoreplease and Another Earth).

What was your favourite movie from last year?  I think mine was Beginners.

Eyebombing

Have you heard of eyebombing?  Yeah, me neither.  Apparently it’s a new thing, where people put googly eyes on inanimate objects.  Supposedly “the goal is to humanize the streets, and bring sunshine to people passing by.”  I think this roundup of 10 Amazing Eyebombing Images are hilarious.  Wouldn’t you love to pull something off the shelf at the grocery store, and find it has googly eyes on it?  That would definitely make me smile.

The World’s Largest Treehouse

Those treehouses I posted a month ago are nothing in comparison to this one – the world’s largest treehouse, in Tennessee.  It was built by Horace Burgess, a Minister, so it’s known as the Minister’s Treehouse.  It spans over 7 different trees, is 100 feet tall, and covers around 10,000 square feet.  The craziest part – it was built without blueprints.  Yep, no plan.  He just kept adding to it for over 11 years.  You can check it out yourself if you’re ever in Crossville, Tennessee.

Annoy Your CoWorkers with the Museum of Endangered Sounds

Here’s something completely random and goofy for your Friday – the Museum of Endangered Sounds.  Turn up your speakers and relive the wonderful tunes of a dot matrix printer or the original Tetris on GameBoy.  My favourite is the dial-up modem.  Delightful.

A Bunch of Random Stuff for your Friday

Holy smokes, it is hot and lovely outside in Toronto today!  I hope you all get to blow off work early and hit up a patio.  Or, in my case, the local splash pad with my toddler.  Here are a bunch of random links and things for you – enjoy!  And have a great long weekend.

Hipster Animals.  Amazing.

From love to bingo.

I’m going to the Women in Biz Network Conference next week.  I’m particularly interested in the keynote from Nora Young.  Tickets are still available if you want to attend.

Some of my (highly acclaimed and celebrated) theatre pals are bringing renowned master playwright Edward Bond to Toronto for a week of theatre awesomeness.  Watch this video for more information.

It’s the little things that can make you the happiest, no?  I love this list of The 36 Absolute Best Things.

Tomorrow I’m teaching one of my Website in a Day (WordPress for Beginners) workshops.  It’s sold out, but don’t worry if you missed it – there’s another one coming up on June 16.  Register here.

Wanna live the champagne life on a beer budget?  Check out the tips and deals available over at Sweet Cheap Toronto.

Whoa! Secret passageways!

Last night I attended a meeting of the Leslieville Small Business Exchange, where it was announced that we’re ditching that silly name, and will now be called Owners of East.  There’s a new logo and everything, all done by the fantastic crew at OX Agency.  I’m really excited for this.

Fancy a good old-fashioned USA road trip?  Check this out.

And finally, next week I’ll be speaking as part of a panel with CRAVE Toronto.  This is going to be so cool – the topic is Online Money Makers, and I’ll be giving practical tips on how to do e-commerce.  I’m super pumped to meet the other speakers, Lisa Delorme of RentFrockRepeat, and Melanie Minor of Mildred & Doris.  Tickets and more info are available here.

Bill Murray Takes a Tour of Moonrise Kingdom

I love Wes Anderson movies.  I love Bill Murray.  I love everything about this video, where Bill Murray takes us on a short tour of Wes Anderson’s new movie, Moonrise Kingdom. I particularly enjoy his descriptions of the other actors in the film, and his explanation of Wes Anderson’s penchant for short pants.

The film opens on Friday.  I’m so excited.

Thigh Society For The Win!

Back in February, I wrote a blog post about meeting Marnie Consky, owner of Thigh Society.  Shortly after that post, I ordered a pair of the black bamboo undergarments. But it hasn’t been skirt and dress weather until recently, when I really got to try them out.  This past weekend was lovely and warm, so I wore a dress with my Thigh Society undergarments.

I’ve gotta say – I LOVE THIGH SOCIETY.  They were airy and comfortable – not clingy (and sometimes sweaty) like Spanx. I am so happy that I can now rock skirts and dresses all summer long.  I’m ordering at least two more pairs of Thigh Society right away!

[ps – this is not a sponsored post.  I’m not getting a kick-back for this – I honestly just love this product.  Image from Thigh Society’s Facebook page]
