Wowee zowee, this 3-storey bookcase is the spine of this loft. Yes please.

I love these pictures of Scandinavian roofs with grass growing on them. Such a great idea for insulation, but not if you let them get out of hand, like that picture above of the abandoned property with trees on the roof!

Those treehouses I posted a month ago are nothing in comparison to this one – the world’s largest treehouse, in Tennessee. It was built by Horace Burgess, a Minister, so it’s known as the Minister’s Treehouse. It spans over 7 different trees, is 100 feet tall, and covers around 10,000 square feet. The craziest part – it was built without blueprints. Yep, no plan. He just kept adding to it for over 11 years. You can check it out yourself if you’re ever in Crossville, Tennessee.

Check out this spectacular floating home on Lake Union in Seattle. Gorgeous. Doesn’t it kind of remind you of Tom Hanks’ floating home in Sleepless in Seattle? Same location!

Last week, I was reading a roundup of “10 Practical Items from IDS 2012” over at Toronto Life. (IDS = Interior Design Show) I really like this walnut Murphy Bed from Space Solutions. It’s not super ugly!
Right now we have our guest room set up in the basement, with a big bed taking up most of the space. I have a feeling that as Clara gets older, we’re going to want to use the basement as more of a rec room, and that bed will have to go. A Murphy Bed is a great solution for accomodating guests on a real mattress (I’m not a huge fan of blow-up beds), without taking up too much space. I’m bookmarking this one for later…
There was a Leslieville home featured over on Apartment Therapy! It belongs to Mazen El-Abdallah, founder of Mazen Studio. My favourite part are the drapes throughout the home – I love how the curtain rods are hung high above the window casings. It really showcases the 10-foot high ceilings, and makes the rooms look dramatic – especially the living room (pictured above).
Read more about the home here, and see all the photos here.
Seems like everyone’s thinking about reorganizing and tidying up this time of year. Must have something to do with New Year’s.
Whenever I need to clear my mind, I usually have to clear my space too. Which then makes me want to redecorate my office. If you feel the same way, then maybe some of these images of Desire To Inspire’s Favourite Workspaces will inspire you. My favourite is the one pictured above – don’t you love that lighting fixture?
Do you get intense wanderlust for a quiet place in the woods, like I sometimes do? Check out Cabin Porn, “inspiration for your quiet place somewhere”. Dreamy.
I just discovered this website: Modern Toronto. It features contemporary art, design and architecture in the city. I love looking at the modern homes… I had no idea there were so many cool dwellings in Toronto.
My favourite is the one on Ward’s Island – it’s spectacular, and only 1500 square feet (more than enough space, if you ask me, but much smaller than some of the other homes featured). Wouldn’t it be amazing to live in this house?
Did you see this post on Design*Sponge about rooftop gardens in New York? Isn’t that atrium (pictured above) gorgeous? I would love to sit up there with a cool drink and read a good book. Or maybe watch a thunderstorm. Dreamy.
