Rainbow Staircase in Germany

Wow, Germany seems to be winning in the “artsy stuff in public” category (yep, a category I just made up).  Last week I shared the Lego Bridge with you, and I just found this – the Holsteiner stairs in Wuppertal, Germany have been painted by German artist Horst Glaesker.  There are 112 steps in all, and each one has a German word painted on it.  To see more pictures, and read a translation of the words on the stairs, click here.

The Greatest Job Posting I’ve Ever Seen

On Tuesday evening, Tina Roth Eisenberg (aka SwissMiss) tweeted a link to this job posting.  It’s for Photojojo, an online hub and email newsletter for photography info (I love their store for cool photo stuff).  Doesn’t that job posting make you want to go work for them?  While relocating to San Francisco probably isn’t in the cards for me and my family right now, I am tempted to apply…

99 Reasons Why Toronto Rocks for Kids

As an awesome response to deputy mayor Doug Holyday’s completely asinine comment last week about raising kids in the city, Bunch has compiled a list of 99 Reasons Why Raising Kids in Downtown Toronto Rules.  This is such a good list of great stuff to do in the city, even if you don’t have kids.  An excellent resource – I’ve bookmarked it for future reference!

Hide the Credit Cards: Amazing Online Sales

Wowee zowee, there are some great sales online this week.  There’s the 30% off sale at MOO that I already told you about (today’s the last day!).  Tattly, the designy temporary tattoo company, is celebrating its first birthday with 50% off everything in store (use promo code “1YEAROLD”).  I would totally order the birthday party set for a kid’s birthday.

And finally, Chapters Indigo is having a huge online sale (with deals up to 75% off) on paper products, toys, and books.  Seriously, stock up now for fall birthdays.  Or treat yourself to something gorgeous like this half-price botanical stationery set (pictured above) by one of my faves, Rifle Paper Co.  Or these pretty note cards by Kate Spade.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Two of My Favourite Things: Scottish Bands & Scottish Countryside

Oh yes please.  One of my favourite bands, Scotland’s Frightened Rabbit, did a concert tour of one of my favourite places, the Scottish Highlands.  And they made a documentary about it.  Might just be the second best thing to actually being there.

That’s the movie trailer above.  They’re playing in Toronto on October 10.

Great Read: Everybody Has Everything

While on holiday last week, I read a fantastic book – Everybody has Everything, but Katrina Onstad.  I enjoy the columns she writes for the Globe and Mail, and I really savoured this book.  It’s about a married couple who unexpectedly become guardians to their friends’ 2-year-old boy.  The book deals with issues of parenting, getting older, marriage, and living in Toronto (with a great section about the frustrations of street parking).  Highly recommended.

Au Revoir, Mes Amis

We’re heading off for a week of vacation, on our little jaunt to Montreal.  There won’t be any blog posts next week, but I’ll be back with you on Monday July 9.

I hope you have a wonderful Canada Day long weekend (or a great Fourth of July, for those of you in the States).
