Outdoor Planter/Seating

I love container gardening.  But the kind of pots and planters out there are a little boring (although I do enjoy the light-up pots that were popular this year).  I loved this post on Cool Hunting featuring planters that double as benches, tables, and loungers – all made by Valencia, Spain-based company Vondom.  I think these colourful pieces could really spice up a backyard.

Stay Cool…

We’re supposed to hit record-breaking temperatures today in Toronto, so I hope you’re all finding ways to stay cool.  My recommendation?  Head to a movie theatre.  The new Harry Potter is supposed to be awesome, and it’s nice and long.  I’ll be staying home, watching a movie or two on the small screen with Little C.  It’s too hot outside for babies!

Mmmmm Margaritas

Baby, it’s hot outside! With this delightfully scorching weather we’ve been enjoying lately, I find a cool drink really hits the spot. We had an impromptu dinner party on Saturday night, and I served margaritas. I follow the “purist” recipe for margaritas, following the very easy to remember “3-2-1” rule. 3 parts Tequila, 2 parts lime juice, 1 part Cointreau or Triple Sec. No sugar. No frozen slushie mix. Just a bit of ice. Then I serve them up in my cobalt blue-rimmed glasses that I brought back from Mexico. Delicious.

New! Moo Stickers

Moo, my favourite online printing company, now offers stickers in different shapes and sizes.  And like all Moo products, you can have something different on each one – they don’t have to be identical.  Wonder what you would do with stickers?  Check out the inspiration shots above.  I’m gonna make return address labels.

Get 15% off sticker orders from now until July 14.

Patio Garden

I have a little vegetable and herb garden on my back patio.  This year I’m growing tomatoes, green beans, chives, parsley, and lavender.  Ian uses the herbs in his cooking all the time, and I can’t wait for those tomatoes to ripen.

I’ve never grown beans before, so it’s a bit of an experiment.  They started climbing the wooden railings, so I just let them do what they want.  So far, so good, I think!  I’d love to have a larger garden, but this is manageable for now.

Catching Up on Movies

Like most new mothers, I spend a fair amount of time on the couch, watching TV while I feed Little C.  We recently cancelled our package of silly cable channels, and ordered the Movie Network, HBO, and AMC instead.  Same price, but much better content!  So now, instead of watching episodes of Extreme Couponing, I’ve been catching up on some great movies that I (somehow) missed.

I recently watched Away We Go and Up in the Air.  Both were fantastic.

Have you seen any good movies lately?  Any recommendations?

So Much To Do On Sunday…

Sunday is Father’s Day, so of course, you should be celebrating Dad.  But you don’t have to stay home with Pops… take Dad with you to one of these cool events happening in town:

Leslieville Farmers’ Market: It’s getting bigger and better every week.  Stop by for some fresh local goodness in the morning, and then take it home for an afternoon BBQ with Dad.

The MP3 Experiment: NY-based hipster collective Improv Everywhere is in town for Luminato, and they’re staging one of their MP3 Experiments on Sunday afternoon.  Of course, Improv Everywhere’s “missions” (as they call them) depend on lots of public participation, so get out there and play along.  Full information and instructions are on the Luminato event page.

Deli-Duel 2 at the Wychwood Barns: I went to this last year, and it was amazing.  All Dads like smoked meat and beer, right?  Especially when it’s for a good cause. Sounds like a perfect plan for lunch.

Have a great weekend!
