Great Kid’s Book: Kika The Upside Down Girl

That’s my pal Jessica Tudos (she’s a Canadian Olympic gymnast!) talking about her new kid’s book, Kika The Upside Down Girl. She’s running a Kickstarter campaign to get the book published. There are 12 days left to her campaign, and I’m confident she’ll reach her goal.  Help her out and order your copy of Kika The Upside Down Girl – it will be delivered to you in time for the holidays. What a great Christmas gift idea!

I’m Heading to New York this Morning

BrooklynBridge

Later this morning I’m jumping on a plane to NYC with my friend and colleague Linn. We’re heading to Brooklyn and Manhattan for Brooklyn Beta on Friday, with a whole bunch of tech events leading up to it. We’ll be visiting the offices and hanging out with Shopify, Mailchimp, Facebook, Pinterest, Meetup, Makeshift Society, Squarespace, and Grand Street. To say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement.

It’s definitely going to be weird to be away from my family though. We tried explaining my impending absence to Clara last night, but she just got confused. Ian will have to tell her more later today, and then I’ll catch up with them on Skype.

I probably won’t be blogging this week, so have a good one, and see you after Thanksgiving!

Is Domino Magazine Coming Back?

domino

I wrote a post here on the blog in February 2012 (that’s over a year and a half ago- yikes) that said Domino Magazine was doing a special edition, and *might* be coming back with more content in 2013.

I saw this tweet earlier today that hints Domino is “coming home”. Apparently new content will be on their website on Thursday, and they tweeted an image of a Holiday 2013 issue (pictured above).  YES!

I have two complimentary tickets to the Fall Home Show in Toronto, happening at Exhibition Place October 3-6.  I thought I’d do a giveaway here on the blog for the tickets. If you’d like to win them, leave a comment below. I’ll choose a winner at random on Sunday night (September 29) and Xpresspost the tickets to the winner.

What Should I Do With This Wall in My Office?

I’ve been having more and more client meetings in my home office, so I decided to switch things up a bit to make it a space worth visiting.  I purged two bookcases-worth of books and magazines, pushed my desk against the wall, picked up a cheap and cheerful table and chairs at Ikea, and painted the walls a light blue/grey.  Add some fresh flowers from my local fav shop, Florabunda, and it almost looks done. Almost, except one wall.

The rest of the room is pretty full, and that one section of the wall looks so bare. I have a print of a painting by Edward Hopper that could go there, but even though I love the piece, it’s a little depressing for my office. I then thought of putting a few shelves there to display knick-knacks, but I don’t want to put something up just to fill the space. (Although, a shelf would be the perfect place to put that Tivoli radio I’ve been coveting for a while…)

What do you think?  Any crazy ideas?
